After “Charliewood” at the Palais de Tokyo in 2016, “The Charlie Show” at the Centre Pompidou in 2017, and his performance “Dusting to Dust” at the Goswell Road Gallery, also in 2017, Charlie Le Mindu returns to the forefront of the Parisian art scene with JIZZZ at the Alfalibra Gallery.

Born in 1986 in the Gironde region of France, Charlie Le Mindu grew up surrounded by hairdressing. The grandson of a hairdresser, he honed his skills on the wigs in his grandmother’s salon. After his studies, he naturally began working in the family business. In 2006, he moved to England to open his own salon in East London and began creating his first extraordinary wigs. Success was immediate, and the world of show business flocked to his salon.

Lady Gaga opened the doors to fame for him by commissioning four wigs, which allowed him to gain international recognition, particularly in the fashion world, into which he burst in 2009 with his first haute coiffure show. There, he presented numerous wigs and dresses made of hair.

Since that first show, Charlie le Mindu has been one of those individuals who transcend the disciplines in which they excel. Between hairdressing, fashion, and contemporary art, his artistic practice goes beyond the physical limitations of hair, as evidenced by his various exhibitions.
Like everything he does, this new avant-garde exhibition is an experimental, powerful, and visual mix. It is conceived as an immersive experience, a blend of neon and underground, encompassing his signature hair sculptures, happenings showcasing hair in motion, and almost abstract macrophotographs of hair covered in paint. Colorful or fluorescent splashes cover and extend beyond the initial works, splattering the walls. This work on splashes is inspired by the abstract expressionism of the American painter Jackson Pollock. It incorporates the punk aspect and the letting go.
